Joy Bell Mysteries

Joy Bell of Joy Bell Mystery Series written by Rebecca Black

He Took My Sister!
A Joy Bell Mystery

Her mother died when she and her baby sister were young, and her father followed shortly after remarrying.   Joy and her eleven-year-old sister, Lily, barely survive their stepmother's daily rage.

Stepmother Maude works the night shift and drinks heavily afterward until early morning.  Resentful and truculent, she makes their lives almost unbearable.  If not for her protective neighbor, adults at school, and a new friend, Joy would be miserable.

In this book, Joy’s sister is kidnapped.  Circumstances lead to Joy, her neighbor, and Mateo—her new friend—as the only ones to hunt down the kidnapper before Lily disappears forever.

What follows is a short excerpt.

“Stepping back slightly, she takes Joy’s face in her hand and asks again, “Why?  Why didn’t you come to me?”  Tearing up, Joy quietly responds, “I didn’t want to intervene, but I could see myself in that boy’s eyes.  He was powerless against those bullies.  As a mixed-race Korean and Latina, I was bullied nearly every day in elementary school until I stood up for my little sister.  Once I punched a boy in the face for telling Lily she was a dog, no one messed with either of us again.”

Excerpt of War in Atlantis

Sapphire and The Atlantians: War in Atlantis Chapter 17 What follows is an exceptionally dark excerpt from book two in the Sapphire and The Atlantians Series of Novels: War in Atlantis. This scene is extremely dark, so please stop reading if it is too violent for you.  The darkness is necessary to foreshadow a few elements at the end of this book and the beginning of the next.  Backstory First, a little backstory.  Atlantians have gifts: empathy (more than simple telepathy), telekinesis, seeing (future and past), and healing.  Sapphire is surprisingly gifted (you'll have to read the books to learn more about her gifts).  Arion, an extremely gifted empath, can alter thoughts and memories.  Moreover, he can alter a person's reality.  In a nutshell, he is evil—deliciously evil. In the following, scene for this book, Sapphire, our female protagonist, is weary after many days of no sleep.  Consequently, she stu...

Sapphire & The Atlantians The Sapphire Series of Novels This second edition includes eleven new pages and is completely rewritten.  In the colorful heart of Atlantia on the island of Atlantis lives a scrawny teenage girl unaware that she will soon become a hero.   For now, Sapphire lives a secluded life in The Elders’ Compound with old, boring seers.    Her only respite is visiting her grandmother in the forests of Iolite twice a year and when Jasper, her only friend, visits the compound.   For the most part, these last fifteen years have been one boring lesson after another learning the mysteries of science, math, history and the ways of humans.   Little does she know of the gifts she will soon receive for her upcoming sixteenth birthday nor the battle she will fight to save the human world.
