A Joy Bell Mystery

He Took My Sister!: A Joy Bell Mystery by Rebecca Black

Joy’s story is one of fear, pain, and angst, but also one of strength, love, and friendship. Every day, she is inundated by bullies, including her stepmother. Unfortunately, her story is one that many young people experience today. Readers might expect He Took My Sister--the first book in the Joy Bell Mystery series--to be depressing, given the sister’s circumstances. But no. Joy’s personality and wit charm the adults around her, turning them into avid advocates.

Joy Bell Mysteries are interactive tomes calling for all ‘Junior Detectives’ to help solve the case. Join Joy and her friends to see if you can solve the mystery before she does!

Plot Summary

Joy's mother died when she and her baby sister were young, and their father remarried shortly afterward. Joy and her eleven-year-old sister, Lily, barely survive their stepmother's daily rage.

Stepmother Maude works the night shift and drinks heavily afterward until early morning. Resentful and aggressive, she makes their lives nearly unbearable. If not for their protective neighbor, supportive adults at school, and Joy's new friend Mateo, Joy would be miserable.

In this story, Joy's sister is kidnapped. Circumstances lead Joy and her friends to be the only ones who can hunt down the kidnapper before Lily disappears forever.

Short excerpt:

Suppressing tears, Alejandro slams his fist on the kitchen table.  “How can this be?!  She’s just an innocent little girl.  She’s... I... I.”  Sobbing, he labors from his chair and in a voice not quite his own, states, “They did nothing? Nothing?”  Hovering with hands flat on the table, he asks, “Where do we begin?  I am all yours.”

In tears and unable to speak, Joy sits between Olivia and Mateo.  Each holds one of her hands tightly.  Olivia, her hazel eyes fill with tears as she addresses Joy in a soft voice, “We are family, and as family, we solve our problems together as one huge force of nature.  Alejandro, we begin now.  Our cousins take over the restaurant until we find our sweet Lily.”

Excerpt of War in Atlantis

Sapphire and The Atlantians: War in Atlantis Chapter 17 What follows is an exceptionally dark excerpt from book two in the Sapphire and The Atlantians Series of Novels: War in Atlantis. This scene is extremely dark, so please stop reading if it is too violent for you.  The darkness is necessary to foreshadow a few elements at the end of this book and the beginning of the next.  Backstory First, a little backstory.  Atlantians have gifts: empathy (more than simple telepathy), telekinesis, seeing (future and past), and healing.  Sapphire is surprisingly gifted (you'll have to read the books to learn more about her gifts).  Arion, an extremely gifted empath, can alter thoughts and memories.  Moreover, he can alter a person's reality.  In a nutshell, he is evil—deliciously evil. In the following, scene for this book, Sapphire, our female protagonist, is weary after many days of no sleep.  Consequently, she stu...
